Risk Advisory

Safety in the Education Sector.

RI&E voor basisscholen

A safe environment is important at any school to provide a good education for children and young people. Besides social safety, this also requires physical safety; people who are trained to deal with minor incidents where a band-aid is enough but who can also perform CPR, evacuate and stabilise. This requires a well-functioning in-house emergency response team at school. We train emergency response workers in education in emergency medical assistance, first aid and first aid, taking into account the situations in your school.

First aid and first aid for teachers and education support staff

From the moment children first start school until they may later attend evening classes as adults, physical safety must be ensured in every school environment. Various safety training programmes respond to this need, such as general First Aid and specific First Aid for Children. These teach teachers and education support staff how to act in case of emergencies.

Other risks in schools

A first-aider will mainly want to prevent or at least limit injuries. But the working environment determines the skills required to do so. Those who work a lot with young children have different injuries to deal with and different risks to prevent than those who work with the elderly or in a production environment. We make sure your team learns the right skills, tailored to the specific situation in your school. To do this, we map out the risks via a risk inventory and evaluation (RI&E). This makes it clear where extra attention needs to be paid and where school safety is at stake. Do you already have an RI&E? If so, we will first assess it for timeliness and completeness.

Effective learning = content x (fun + challenge)

Protocols

Through the various safety training programmes, we teach staff how to act. We also train them in protocols to follow. Are these protocols not yet in place? Then we can help draw them up for your school.

Customised training for schools

In addition to the standard in-house emergency and first aid training we provide, we also offer customised training. Especially for education, this is very important. After all, a school that gives practical lessons in metalworking, woodworking or welding has very different risks from a school where lessons are largely theoretical. Using realistic scenarios, we adapt our teaching programme accordingly and take into account the RI&E. In this way, all relevant risks are addressed and we realise a training course that responds to them.

Type of school and school building

The training courses we subsequently develop also address your school's situation. Such as the type of school; a primary school with young children requires different skills from a school where pupils do chemistry tests or learn to work with tools themselves. And the building. A new or old building, low-rise or multi-storey school; each type of education and each type of school building requires its own approach and interpretation of safety training.

Realistic training with actual scenarios

FeniksGroup's safety training always includes current scenarios. This way, we simulate situations that are recognisable in and around schools and that teachers and education support staff may have to deal with. Whether it is a first aid or first aid for children, the realistic training is always useful and attractive. Even if it is a repetition. Because while the basics are repeated, the emphasis is shifted and the scenarios are new again. So you always gain new skills here and previous knowledge is refreshed.

FeniksGroup specialises in safety in your sector. We have relevant and up-to-date knowledge and advise on occupational health and safety legislation and regulations, RI&Es, evacuation plans and therefore also on safety training such as first aid and emergency aid for education. First Aid for Children

In addition to the first aid and in-house emergency response courses we can tailor to education, there is also a specific course for anyone dealing with children: First Aid for Children. This consists of a First Aid section that focuses on providing help for minor injuries, poisoning, resuscitation and for disruption in vital signs. There is also a section that deals with evacuations and firefighting. Anyone who follows and successfully completes both parts is a lifeguard and can thus be deployed in schools and school-related activities.

CPR for babies and children

The First Aid for Children course covers the basics of regular first aid with additional sections specifically aimed at helping children. Such as resuscitation for babies and children, but also what to do if a foreign object is stuck in the nose, a tooth has gone through the lip or even broken off, how to deal with convulsions or a finger stuck in a door. Essential and focused on reality, that is the essence of this training.

What to do in a laughing gas accident at school?

That same reality means that we also cover topics that were not previously covered. Because these are now current topics that schools are struggling with. Like the use of nitrous oxide. Or the proliferation of electric batteries in bicycle parking as more and more students come to school by e-bike. Nitrous oxide and electric batteries pose risks that were virtually unheard of in and around a school just a few years ago. But safety in today's education requires these additions to the training programme. And so these topics also recur as scenarios in our safety training programmes for education.

Instructors for teachers and education support staff

The FeniksGroup instructors who train teachers and education support staff are all qualified in emergency response and safety and risks within schools and nurseries. They are regularly retrained in all disciplines of safety training. Every year, these driven professionals ensure many satisfied course participants who, as well-trained emergency workers, make their schools a little safer.
